Last ball Wicket in Sri Lanka

Taking a wicket in front of your home crowd is something special. It’s not uncommon for a player to take a wicket in his final ball at home. However, three Sri Lankans were able to achieve this milestone.

1. Muttiah Muralitharan

Muttiah Muralitharan, a Sri Lankan legend, took wicket in his final ball in the Sri Lanka. Muttiah Muralitharan reached this milestone during the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup Semi-Final between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, when he took the wicket of Scott Styris with the last ball of his 10-over spell. Muralitharan claimed two wickets for 42 runs.

2. Mahela Jayawardena

Former Sri Lankan captain and legendary batsman Mahela Jayawardene became the second Sri Lankan to take a wicket in his final ball in Sri Lanka. During the 7th and last ODI of the series between Sri Lanka and England, Mahela Jayawardene claimed the wicket of James Tredwell as the last wicket of England.

3. Lasith Malinga

Lasith Malinga, the legendary fast bowler from Sri Lanka, became the third Sri Lankan to take a wicket on his final ball in Sri Lanka. Lasith Malinga achieved this milestone in his last ODI. During the 1st ODI between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, Lasith Malinga took the wicket of Mustafizur Rahman as the last wicket of Bangladesh’s innings.
