Travis Head keeps Australia in the fight

Australia trailed South Africa by 7 runs at the end of the first day of the series opener between the two countries in Brisbane on Saturday. Australia captain Pat Cummins won the coin toss and elected to bowl first.

After losing the toss, South Africa was bowled out  for 152 runs. South Africa hasn’t had a good start. They lost four wickets for 27 runs. Kyle Verreynne was the top scorer with 64 runs. Temba Bavuma scored 38 runs. Both added 98 runs for the fifth wicket. For Australia, Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon claimed three wickets each.

Australia was batting at 145 for the loss of five wickets at the end of the day. Australia hasn’t had a good start; they lost David Warner in the very first ball of the innings. Following that, they quickly took two wickets. However, Steven Smith and Travis Head put on a 117-run partnership for the fourth wicket to rebuild the inning. Steven Smith scored 36 runs. Scott Boland was the day’s final wicket, caught for one run. However, Travis Head was unbeaten on 78 runs at the close of the day’s play. For South Africa, Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje claimed two wickets each.
