There is something between me and World Cups – Dimuth Karunarathne
Sri Lankan Test captain and former ODI captain Dimuth Karunarathne was brought back into the Limited overs side recently during the ODI series between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka. He managed to score two consecutive half centuries against Afghanistan and registered his place in Sri Lanka’s 15-member squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023.
Previously He played in the 2015 and 2019 ICC Cricket World Cups, and he led the side in the 2019 World Cup. “It’s a fairytale; I was playing in the 2015 World Cup and then I was dropped, and then again after the 2019 World Cup and dropped, and then the 2023 World Cup. So There is something between me and World Cups,” Dimuth Karunarathne said during an interview.
Dimuth Karunarathne played a crucial role as an opener and scored two back-to-back half centuries in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023. “In the last few years, our openers couldn’t do much well, and we were struggling with the two new balls,” Dimuth said. I played good Test Cricket in the last five or six years. Because of that, the selectors have shown faith in me, and they brought me back into the ODI side as well,” he added.
