Historical win for Sri Lankan ladies

Sri Lanka women registered a 9-wicket win over New Zealand women in the rain-effected 1st ODI of the series on Tuesday at Galle. The match was delayed by rain, and it was reduced to 28 overs per side due to rain. New Zealand women’s captain Sophie Devine won the toss and opted to bat first.

After winning the toss, New Zealand Women scored 170 runs for the loss of five wickets in their 28 overs. Melie Kerr was the top scorer with 40 runs, and Maddy Green scored 39 runs. Suzie Bates contributed 28 runs. For Sri Lanka, Sugandika Kumari, Kavisha Dilhari, and Inoka Ranaweera claimed one wicket each.

In reply, Sri Lanka women chased down the target successfully and scored 175 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in 27 overs. Chamari Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne made a 159-run partnership for the first wicket. Vishmi Gunaratne scored 50 runs. Chamari Athapaththu was the star with the bat and scored an unbeaten 108 runs in 83 balls.
