July 03: Dimuth Karunarathne’s Hundred
On This Day in 2011, Angelo Mathews helped Dinesh Chandimal score his maiden hundred at Lord’s. When Angelo Mathews came to the crease after the dismissal of Thilina Kandamby, Sri Lanka needed another 17 runs to win, and Dinesh Chandimal needed 13 runs to complete his century. Angelo Mathews faced 21 balls and scored only one run, giving the opportunity to young Chandimal to make his maiden hundred at the Home of Cricket.
On This Day in 2015, Dimuth Karunarathne became the first Sri Lankan to score a hundred at Pallekele. He scored 130 runs in the first inning of the match against Pakistan. It helped Sri Lanka score 278 runs in the first inning. It’s recorded as his second Hundred in Test matches.
