Sri Lanka start the World Cup tour with a win

Sri Lanka registered 33 runs win over Zimbabwe, in their 1st warm up match of the ICC T20 World Cup. Zimbabwe captain Craig Ervine won the toss and elected to bowl first.

After losing the toss Sri Lanka posed 188 runs for lost of 5 wickets in their 20 overs. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis set the platform for the Sri Lanka with quick 57 runs for the first wicket. Kusal Mendis was the top scorer with 54 runs in 29 balls. Sri Lanka lost few wickets in quick sucsetions. Dhananjaya de Silva, Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Dhanushka Gunathilaka scored 17 runs each. However in the back stage of the innings Wanidu Hasaranga played some big shots and made an unbeaten 37 runs in 14 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Both Dasun Shanaka and Wanidu Hasaranga made unbroken 55 runs for the 6th wicket.

In reply that Zimbabwe had a solid start with 39 runs partnership for the first wicket in 3.2 overs. But they couldn’t capitalize on that and they felt 33 runs short. Wesley Madhevere was the top scorer with 43 runs. Milton Shumba contributed with 32 runs. Eventually Zimbabwe made 155 runs for lost of 5 wickets in their 20 overs.  For Sri Lanka Chimika Karunarathne and Maheesh Theekshana claimed 2 wickets each.
