July 31: Nuwan Pradeep ODI debut

On This Day in 2012, Sri Lankan pacer Nuwan Pradeep made his debut in ODI matches. He played his first ODI against India at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Nuwan Pradeep took the wicket of Rohit Sharma as his first wicket in his debut match. Since then, he has played 49 ODI matches and claimed 63 wickets.

On This Day in 2019, The 3rd ODI between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh was played, which was dedicated to Sri Lankan bowler Nuwan Kulasekara. Lasith Malinga and Nuwan Kulasekara both decided to retire from ODI cricket, and Kulasekara sent a letter to Sri Lanka Cricket asking them to consider Malinga’s request to play a farewell match together. After receiving no reply, he announced his retirement from international cricket on July 24, 2019.
