Everyone was surprised that Chamari Athapaththu went unsold in the WPL auction
The player auction for the upcoming second edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) was held on Saturday in Mumbai. 165 players went under the hammer, including 104 Indians and 61 overseas players. Among those players, 30 were picked by the five franchise teams, and 61 went unsold.
From Sri Lanka, Chamari Athapaththu and Inoka Ranaweera remain unsold in the WPL Auction 2024.
However, before starting the WPL Auction 2024, most cricket analysts predict that Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu will be one of the top 3 picks in this WPL Auction. Even Sri Lankan legendary fast bowler Lasith Malinga tweeted just before the auction and said that he would be surprised if WPL teams didn’t break their bank for a player of her quality.
