Defending champions England eliminated from the World Cup
India registered a 100-run win over England in the 29th match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 on Sunday at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and opted to bowl first.
After losing the toss, India scored 229 runs for a loss of nine wickets in their 50 overs. India were off to a sheaky start, and they lost three quick wickets. However, after a horible start, skipper Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul made a 91-run partnership for the 4th wicket. Rohit Sharma was the top scorer with 87 runs, followed by KL Rahul with 39 runs and Suryakumar Yadav with 49 runs. For England, David Willey claimed three wickets.
In reply to that, England bowled out 129 runs in 34.5 overs. The England openers made a 30-run partnership for the first wicket, and after that, England lost momentum. Indian bowlers kept things tight and took wickets at regular intervals. Liam Livingstone was the top scorer with 27 runs. David Willey and Dawid Malan contributed 16 runs each. For India, Mohammed Shami claimed 4 wickets, while Jasprit Bumrah chipped in with 3 wickets.
With that huge defeat, defending champions England were eliminated from the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
