Big win for the hosts
Australia won by an innings and 40 runs over Sri Lanka, in 1st Test of the Two match series, at the Gabba on Saturday. Sri Lankan Captain Dinesh Chandimal won the coin toss, and elected to bat first.
The Australian bowlers did not allow Sri Lanka to get a successful start. Dimuth Karunarathne and Lahiru Thirmanne added 26 runs for the first wicket. After that Sri Lanka lost 4 wickets for just 40 runs. however Roshen Silva and Niroshan Dickwella made 25 runs for the 6th wicket. Niroshan Dickwella was the top scorer with 64 runs. However Sri Lanka all out for 144 runs in their first innings.
In reply that Australia were bowled out for 323 runs. Sri Lankan bowlers took 4 Australian batsmen for 82 runs. But Marnus Labuschagne (81) and Travis Head (84) took the game away from Sri Lanka. Both added 166 runs for the 5th wicket. While in the bowling department Suranga Lakmal claimed five – wickets for 75 runs.
Sri Lanka Started their second innings 179 runs behind. Once again Sri Lankan could not get a good start. They lost their first 3 wickets for just 19 runs and no one able to get going. Lahiru Thrimanne was the top scorer for Sri Lanka. He scored 32 runs. Niroshan Dickwella and Suranga Lakmal contributed with 24 runs each. Unfortunately Sri Lanka finished their innings for 139. Pat Cummins was the star with the ball and he claimed 6 wickets for 23 runs
