Asitha Fernando was found guilty of breaching the ICC Code of Conduct

Sri Lankan pacer Asitha Fernando was found guilty of breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the 2nd Test match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. The incident happened during the 81st over of the Paksitan’s first innings when Saud Shakeel was given out on LBW. After Shakeel’s dismissal, Asitha Fernando went close to the batter and celebrated the dismissal in an inappropriate manner.

Asitha Fernando was found to have breached Article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “using language, actions, or gestures that disparage or could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his or her dismissal during an International Match.” In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to the disciplinary record of Fernando, for whom it was the first offense in a 24-month period.
