All-Time Greatest XI for Sri Lanka in T20 World Cup

Sri Lanka had a wonderful time in ICC T20 World Cup history. They became champions in 2014 and runners-up in 2009 and 2012. During eight editions of the T20 World Cup, 57 players have represented Sri Lanka. Out of those 57 players, here are the 11Cricketnews “All-Time Greatest XI for Sri Lanka”

1. Tillakaratne Dilshan
Thilakaratne Dilshan made his T20 World Cup debut in 2007. Since 2007, he has represented Sri Lanka six times. During those six occasions, he has played 34 matches and scored 897 runs. TM Dilshan was named the Player of the Series in the 2009 T20 World Cup, while Sri Lanka finished as the runners-up.

2. Sanath Jayasuriya
Sanath Jayasuriya played his first T20 World Cup in 2007. He played 18 matches in three T20 World Cups. Sanath Jayasuriya has scored 346 runs, with the highest score of 88.

3. Kumar Sangakkara (WK)
Kumar Sangakkara made his T20 World Cup debut in 2007. He played 31 matches in 5 T20 World Cups. During those five times, Sangakkara has scored 661 runs and contributed as a wicketkeeper with 26 dismissals. Also, he led the side in the 2010 T20 World Cup, and Sri Lanka became the runners-up.

4. Mahela Jayawardene (C)
Mahela Jayawardene made his T20 World Cup debut in 2007. He was the first captain to lead the Sri Lanka team in T20 World Cups. He has represent Sri Lanka five times. During those five occasions, he captained the side twice, and Sri Lanka became the runners up in 2012 under his captaincy. Mahela Jayawardene was the leading run scorer until the T20 World Cup in 2022. He has scored 1016 runs in 31 matches.

5. Angelo Mathews
In 2009, Angelo Mathews made his first appearance in T20 World Cups. Since then, he has played in five T20 World Cups. During those five occasions, he has played 29 matches, scored 459 runs, and taken 19 wickets. Also, he led the side in the 2016 T20 World Cup in India.

6. Thisara Perera
Thisara Perera made his T20 World Cup debut in 2010. He has played in four T20 World Cups and played a crucial role as a finisher.

7. Wanindu Hasaranga
Wanindu Hasaranga played his first T20 World Cup in 2021 and became the leading wicket-taker. In two T20 World Cups, he has played 16 matches and taken 31 wickets.

8. Nuwan Kulasekara
In 2009, Nuwan Kulasekara made his first appearance in a T20 World Cup. Since then, he has played in five T20 World Cups. During those 5 times, he has taken 17 wickets in 18 matches.

9. Dushmantha Chameera
Dushmantha Chameera made his T20 World Cup debut in 2016. He has played in three World Cups.

10. Lasith Malinga
Lasith Malinga played his first T20 World Cup in 2007. Since then, he has played in five T20 World Cups. During that period, he has played 31 matches and taken 38 wickets. Also, Lasith Malinga led a side in the 2014 T20 World Cup, and Sri Lanka became the champions.

11. Ajantha Mendis
Ajantha Mendis made his T20 World Cup debut in 2009 and has represented Sri Lanka on four occasions. He has played 21 T20 World Cup matches and taken 35 wickets.
