After ten years, Sri Lanka defeated England, with Chamari leading the way on both occasions
Sri Lanka Women registered an 8-wicket win over England Women in the 2nd T20I of the series on Saturday at County Ground in Chelmsford. It was their first ever win against England Women in T20I matches. Also, this is the second time that Sri Lanka has beat England in women’s cricket history. Previously, Sri Lanka Women managed to beat England Women for the first time in a women’s ODI match between these two countries in the ICC Women’s World Cup 2013 at Brabourne.
In both occasions, Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu was the top scorer for Sri Lanka and scored half centuries.
In 2013, when Sri Lanka registered their first ever ODI win against England Women, Chamari Athapaththu scored 62 runs in 72 balls and made a 103-run partnership for the first wicket with Yasoda Mendis, who contributed 46 runs.
In 2023, when Sri Lanka registered their first win in T20Is against England Women, Sri Lankan Skipper Chamari Athapaththu scored 55 runs in 31 balls and made a 69-run partnership with Harshitha Samarawickrama for the 2nd wicket.
