July 27: Sanga’s double hundred and Dimuth milestone
On This Day in 2010, Kumar Sangakkara made his seventh Double hundred in Test matches. He has scored 219 runs against India at the SSC in Colombo. It helped Sri Lanka put 642 runs on the board in their first innings against India.
On This Day in 2016, Lakshan Sandakan registered the best bowling figures by a Chinaman on debut. Lakshan Sandakan claimed four wickets for 58 runs against Australia at Pallekele. This figure is recorded as the second-best by a Sri Lankan spinner on debut, after Upul Chandana. Upul Chandana picked up six wickets for 179 runs against Pakistan in 1999.
On This Day in 2017, Nuwan Pradeep achieved his first five-wicket haul in Test matches. He has claimed six wickets for 132 runs against India at Galle. This figure is recorded as his best bowling figure in Test innings.
On This Day in 2022, Sri Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunarathne became the sixth Sri Lankan to pass 6,000 runs in Test matches. He achieved that milestone during the second innings of the Second Test match against Pakistan at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.
