WHITE FERNS lead the T20I series

New Zealand women registered a five-wicket win over Sri Lanka women in the first T20I of the series on Saturday in Colombo. New Zealand women’s captain Sophie Devine won the coin toss and opted to bowl first.

After losing the toss, Sri Lanka’s women managed to score 106 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs. Vishmi Gunaratne was the top scorer with 26 runs. Anushka Sanjeewani and Oshadhi Ranasinghe scored 18 runs each. For New Zealand, Eden Carson, Leigh Kasperek, and Melie Kerr claimed two wickets each.

In reply, the New Zealand women chased down the target successfully and scored 107 runs for the loss of five wickets in 18.5 overs. Suzie Bates scored 44 runs, and Melie Kerr scored 34 runs. Both Bates and Melie Kerr added 58 runs for the second wicket. For Sri Lanka, Inoshi Priyadharshani claimed three wickets.
