Jason Roy’s inning is squandered

South Africa registered a 27-run win over England in the 1st ODI of the series on Friday at Bloemfontein. South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the coin toss and went to bat first.

After winning the toss, South Africa posted a competitive total on the board. South Africa got off to a good start, scoring 61 runs between captain Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock. Bavuma scored 36 runs, and de Kock made 37. Rassie van der Dussen was the top scorer with 111 runs. Rassie van der Dussen and David Miller both scored 110 runs for the fifth wicket. David Miller scored 53 runs. For England, Sam Curran claimed three wickets for 35 runs.

England were bowled out for 271 runs in 44.2 overs in response. England openers made a 146-run partnership for the first wicket and set the perfect platform for the perfect chase. Dawid Malan scored 59 runs. Jason Roy was the top scorer with 113 runs in 91 balls. After the solid start, England lost momentum and wickets at regular intervals. Jos Buttler scored 36 runs. For South Africa, Anrich Nortje claimed four wickets.
