Sri Lanka registered a comfortable 8-wicket win over defending champions England in the 25th match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 on Thursday at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. After winning the toss, England batted first, and they were bowled out for 156 runs in 33.2 overs. In reply to that, Sri Lanka chased down the target succcessfully and scored 160 runs in two wickets in 25.4 overs.
At the end of the match, Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews expressed his thoughts about the game against England and said it was a good game today and a good all-round performance by the entire team.
“I thought the bowlers would start brilliantly today. It was all attitude, and the bowling was backed up by fielding.” Angelo Mathews said. Also, Angelo Mathews talked about Sadeera Samarawickrama and Pathum Nissanka. “Sadeera has been batting so well right throw out the tournament, and Pathum has also been batting right throw out the tournament.” Angelo Mathews “Its all about whoever gets in has to finish off the game, and both exactly did that.” He added.
Mathews explained Sri Lanka’s performance in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup. “We played some good cricket even though we lost in the first three games.” Angelo Mathews said “We made mistakes at critical times; thats why we didn’t get over the line. But it was all about playing positive cricket, even batting, bowling, and fielding.” Mathews extends his explanation.
