Sri Lanka finished strong but India won the first ODI

India registered a 67-run win over Sri Lanka in the 1st ODI of the series on Tuesday at Guwahati. The Sri Lanka captain won the coin toss and elected to bowl first.

After losing the toss, India posed a huge target in front of Sri Lanka. India had a great opening partnership between Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma. Both added 143 runs to their partnership until Shubman Gill dismissed them for 70 runs. 30 runs later, Rohit Sharma got out for 83 runs as debutant Dilshan Madushanka’s first wicket. After the dismissal of Sharma, Shreyas Iyer joined Virat Kohli and made a 40-run partnership for the third wicket. Iyer made 28 runs. Following that, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli put on a 90-run partnership for the fourth wicket.KL Rahul contributed 39 runs. Virat Kohli was the top scorer with 113 runs in 87 balls. India eventually scores 373 runs in 20 overs for a loss of 7 wickets.

In reply to that, Sri Lanka hasn’t had a good start. They lost Avishaka Fernando and Kusal Mendis cheaply. Charith Asalanka and Pathum Nissanka, on the other hand, added 41 runs for the third wicket before Asalanka was dismissed for 23 runs. Following Asalanka’s dismissal, Dhananajaya de Silva and Pathum Nissanka put on a 72-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Pathum Nissanka scored 72 runs, while Dhananjaya de Silva scored 47. Skipper Dasun Shanaka fought till the end and made an unbeaten 108 runs, while Kasun Rajitha helped with an unbeaten 9 runs. Both Kasun Rajitha and Dasun Shanaka made an unbroken 100-run partnership for the 9th wicket. For India, Umran Malik claimed three wickets.
