Sri Lanka came back strongly
Sri Lanka registered 79 runs win over UAE, in 6th T20I of the T20I World Cup at the Geelong on Tuesday. UAE Captain Chundangapoyil Rizwan won the coin toss and elected to bowl first.
After losing the toss Sri Lanka had a solid start with 42 runs. After the dismissal of Kusal Mendis for 18 runs Dhananjaya de Silva joined with Pathum Nissanka and made 50 runs partnership for the 2nd wicket. Dhananjaya de Silva unfortunately run out for 33 runs. 25 runs later Bhanuka Rajapaksa dismissed for 5 runs. With the dismissal of Rajapaksa Sri Lanka lost 4 wickets within 3 runs including a Hat-Trick by UAE bowler Karthik Meiyappan. He became the 5th player to take a hat-trick in T20 World Cup history. However Pathum Nissanka batted through the innings and he made brilliant 74 runs it helped Sri Lanka to put competitive total on the board.
In reply that UAE bowled out for 73 runs in 17.1 overs. Dushmantha Chameera open door for Sri Lanka with 2 wickets over. After that Sri Lankan bowlers kept things tight and put pressure on UAE batsman. Aayan Afzal Khan was the top scorer with 19 runs. Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga claimed 3 wickets each. Unfortunately Chamara couldn’t complete his 4 overs spell and he went off the field due an injury. Maheesh Theekshana took 2 wickets.
