South Africa won the high-scoring game against Sri Lanka
South Africa registered a 102-run win over Sri Lanka in the 4th match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 on Saturday at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and opted to bowl first.
After losing the toss, South Africa put a huge total on the board and scored 428 runs for a loss of 5 wickets in their 50 overs. After the dismissal of Temba Bavuma in the 2nd over of the match, Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen made a 204-run partnership for the 2nd wicket and set the platform. Quinton de Kock scored 100 runs on 84 balls. Rassie van der Dussen was the top scorer with 108 runs. At the back end of the inning, Aiden Markram scored 106 runs. He scored the fastest hundred in World Cup matches with 49 balls.
In reply to that, Sri Lanka bowled out 326 runs in 44.5 overs. Sri Lanka lost their opening batter, Pathum Nissanka, for note when the score was 1. After that, Kusal Mendis played a gem of an innings and scored 76 runs in 42 balls, giving some hope for Sri Lanka. Charith Asalanka was the top scorer with 79 runs, while skipper Dasun Shanaka contributed with 68 runs. At the back end of the inning, Kasun Rajitha scored 33 runs.
