South Africa start the new year with a big win
South African’s brilliant bowling performance registered a convincing win over Sri Lanka, in 2nd test match, at the Cape Town on Thursday. Sri Lankan Captain Angelo Mathews won the coin toss, and elected to field first.
South African couldn’t able to build a good opening partnership as they did in the 1st Test. Stephen Cook dismissed in first over for a duck. 66 runs later 19 years old Lahiru Kumara took two wickets in one over including Hashim Amla and JP Duminy. For South Africa it was Dean Elgar(129) and Quinton de Kock(101) how contributed with the centuries. while in the bowling department, it was young Lahiru Kumara, who claimed six wickets. Finally South Africa team all out for 392 runs in the 1st Innings.
In reply that Sri Lanka bowled out for 110 runs. Sri Lankan batsman never really got going and lost wickets at regular intervals. Upul Tharanga was the top scorer with 26 runs. South African bowlers kept things tight and never let go of their grip. Sri Lanka all out for 282 runs behind. Vernon Philander and Kagiso Rabada claimed 4 wickets each.
South Africa started their 2nd Innings with lead of 282 runs. Stephen Cook and Dean Elgar build a 64 runs partnership for the first wicket. For South Africa, it was Dean Elgar, who was the top scorer with 55 runs. South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis decided to declare their innings at the score of 224 and set a target of 507 runs to chase for Sri Lanka.
Sri Lankan batsman came out chassed a big target that Soth Africa was set. Once again Sri Lankan top order collapsed. Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal mede 75 runs partnership for the 5th wicket. But it was not enough. Both Dinesh Chandimal(30) and Angelo Mathews (49) get the start but they couldn’t convert them to big score. while in the bowling department, it was Kagiso Rabada, who claimed six wickets. However Sri Lanka fall 282 runs short and it clam 201 runs victory for the South Africa. Kagiso Rabada named as player of the match for his 10 wickets in the match.
