On this day in 2000, Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan achieved his best bowling figures in ODI matches. He claimed seven wickets for 30 runs in his 10-over spell against India at Sharjah. It was recored as the 2nd best bowling figure by a Sri Lankan in ODI matches.
On this day in 2000, Marvan Atapattu and Mahela Jayawardene made a 226-run partnership for the 3rd Wicket. It was the 2nd highest partnership for the 3rd wicket in Sri Lankan cricket history. This mamuth partnership helped Sri Lanka put up 294 runs against India at Sharjah. Marvan and Mahela formed this partnership when Sri Lanka lost two wickets for 25 runs.
On this day in 2018, Sri Lankan all-rounder Kamindu Mendis made his debut in ODI matches. He played his maiden T20I match against England at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. He scored 24 runs in 14 balls on his debut.
