On this day in 2010, Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews and Sri Lankan legend Lasith Malinga made the highest partnership for the 9th wicket in ODI matches. Both Mathews and Malinga made a 132-run partnership against Australia in Melbourne, breaking the 27-year-old record for the highest 9th wicket partnership.

During the 1st ODI of the series between Sri Lanka and Australia, Australia batted first and scored 239 runs for a loss of 8 wickets in their 50 overs. In reply to that, Sri Lanka struggled with 107 runs for a loss of eight wickets. After the dismissal of Nuwan Kulasekara, Lasith Malinga joined with the Angelo Mathews and made the record partnership.

On this day in 2015, Sri Lankan spinner Inoka Ranaweera became the only Sri Lankan women’s team player to take a hat-trick in women’s ODI matches. She completed her hat-trick against the New Zealand women’s team at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval in Lincoln. Inoka Ranaweera took the wickets of Anna Peterson, Erin Bermingham, and Lea Tahuhu in three consecutive balls to complete the hat-trick.
