Netherlands kept their hopes alive

The Netherlands registered a 74-run win according to the DLS method in the rain-effected 5th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 on Monday at Harare. Oman captain Aqib Ilyas won the toss and opted to bowl first.

After losing the toss, the Netherlands got off to a solid start. However, the match was interrupted due to rain. After the break, the match was restarted and reduced to 48 overs per side. The Netherlands openers made a 117-run partnership until Max Odowd was dismissed for 35 runs. 80 runs later, Vikramjit Singh was dismissed for 110 runs. Wesley Barresi scored 97 runs in 65 balls. At the back end of the innings, Bas de Leede smashed a quick 39 runs in 19 balls, while Saqib Zulfiqar scored 33 runs in 17 balls. Eventually, the Netherlands managed to score 362 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 48 overs.

In reply, Oman scored 246 runs for the loss of six wickets in 44 overs until the match was called off due to bad light. Ayaan Khan was the top scorer with an unbeaten 105 runs in 92 balls. Shoaib Khan scored 46 runs. Both Shoaib Khan and Ayaan Khan made an 112-run partnership for the 5th wicket. For the Netherlands, Aryan Dutt claimed three wickets.

With that win, the Netherlands kept their hopes alive of qualifying for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
