May 01: Kumar Sangakkara became the first Sri Lankan to surpass 19,000 List A runs
On this day in 2017, Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara passed 19,000 runs in List A matches. He reached this feat during the match between Surrey and Glamorgan in the United Kingdom’s domestic 50-over tournament. With that, he became the first Sri Lankan player to achieve that milestone, and Sangakkara was the fourth batsman to reach the landmark after Graham Gooch, Graeme Hick, and Sachin Tendulkar.
On this day in 2021, Sri Lankan spinner Praveen Jayawickrama registered the best figures for a Sri Lankan Test debutant. He claimed six wickets against Bangladesh at Pallekele.
