India registered their first win in Asia Cup 2023
India registered a 10-wicket win according to the DLS method over Nepal in the rain-effected 5th match of the Asia Cup 2023 on Monday at Pallekele. India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first.
After losing the toss, Nepal was bowled out for 230 runs in 48.2 overs. The match was interrupted by rain several times. Aasif Sheikh was the top scorer with the bat and scored 58 runs, while Sompal Kami scored 48 runs. Kushal Bhurtel contributed 38 runs in 25 balls. For India, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami claimed three wickets each.
In reply to that, the Indian openers scored 17 runs in 2.1 overs when play resumed due to rain. After a long break, the match was started, the second innings was reduced to 23 overs, and the revised target for India was 145. However, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill made an unbeaten 147-run partnership for the first wicket. With that partnership, India won the match by 10 wickets with 17 balls to spare. Rohit Sharma was the top scorer with 74 runs not out, while Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 67 runs.
With that win, India sealed their place in the Super Four stage, and Nepal was eliminated from the Asia Cup 2023.
