I wasn’t trying to prove anything to anyone says Angelo Mathews

Sri Lanka registered a three-wicket win over Zimbabwe in the first T20I of the series on Sunday at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Zimbabwe batted first and scored 143 runs for a loss of five wickets in their 20 overs. In reply to that, Sri Lanka chased down the target in the final ball of their inning. Angelo Mathews was awarded player of the match for his 46 runs in 38 balls under pressure.

After winning the player of the match award, Angelo Mathews said that he felt that he was making his debut today. “I wasn’t trying to prove anything to anyone. It was just another opportunity for me to try and do the job for my team.” Angelo Mathews said this in the post-match presentation.

Angelo Mathews was dropped from the Sri Lanka limited side by the former Sri Lankan selection committee. The newly appointed Sri Lankan selection committee decided to bring Angelo Mathews back into the T20I side after 33 months.
