Dhananjaya de Silva takes over the captaincy from Dimuth Karunaratne
The newly appointed selection committee held a press conference to announce the 17-member ODI squad for the upcoming home series against Zimbabwe. During the press conference, Sri Lanka Cricket’s Upul Tharanga said that they have decided to change the Sri Lanka Test captain, and all-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva will take over the captaincy from Dimuth Karunarathne for Sri Lanka in Test matches. Also, Kusal Mendis was named as the vice captain of the Test side.
Dimuth Karunarathne has captained the side in 30 Test matches since 2019, and Sri Lanka won the 12 matches under his captaincy.
