Day one is dominated by Sri Lanka
Home side on the top end of the first day of the 1st Test match between Sri Lanka and Ireland on Sunday at Galle. Dimuth Karunarathne, Sri Lanka’s captain, won the coin toss and chose to bat first.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka got off to a solid start with a 64-run partnership for the first wicket until Nishan Madushka was dismissed for 29 runs. After that, Kusal Mendis joined with Dimuth Karunaratne and made a record breaking partnership for the 2nd wicket. Both added 281 runs for the second wicket. Kusal Mendis made his eighth hundred and scored 140 runs. Three runs later, Angelo Mathews was dismissed for a duck. After the dismissal of Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal joined with Dimuth Karunaratne and made 25 runs for the 4th wicket until the skipper was dismissed for 179 runs. After that, Prabath Jayasuriya came to the middle as the night watchman.
At the end of the day, Sri Lanka managed to score 386 runs for the loss of four wickets. Dinesh Chandimal stayed on not out for 18 runs, and Prabath Jayasuriya at the other end had 12 not out.
