Colombo Stars gain their first point on the point table

The Colombo Stars registered a 9-run win over Dambulla Aura in the 5th match of the Lanka Premier League on Thursday at Hambantota. The Colombo Stars captain, Angelo Mathews, won the coin toss and elected to bat first.

After winning the toss, the Colombo Stars managed to score 165 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs. The Colombo Stars lost three early wickets, but Niroshan Dickwella and Ravi Bopara made a 54-run partnership and revived the innings. Bopara scored 26 runs. Niroshan Dickwella was the top scorer with 62 runs. Dinesh Chandimal contributed with an unbeaten 29. Lahiru Kumara took four wickets for Dambulla Aura.

In reply, Dambulla Aura scored 156 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs. Dambulla had a solid start with a 53-run partnership for the first wicket. However, they lost momentum and wickets at regular intervals after that.Tom Abell scored 33 runs. Skipper Dasun Shanaka scored an unbeaten 31 runs. For the Colombo Stars, Suranga Lakmal, Dominic Drakes, and Karim Janat claimed two wickets each.

With that win, the Colombo stars registered their first win in the tournament.
