August 29: Thilan Samaraweera’s Test debut
On This Day in 1998, Sri Lanka’s dashing opening batsman Sanath Jayasuriya made his second Test double hundred. He scored 213 runs against England at the Oval. It helped Sri Lanka score 591 runs.
On This Day in 2001, Sri Lankan solid middle order batter Thilan Samaraweera made his debut in Test matches. He played his maiden Test match against India at the Singhalese Sports Club in Colombo. Samaraweera scored an unbeaten 103 runs and became the third Sri Lankan to score a hundred on his Test debut.
