August 01: Sri Lanka won the Asia Cup

On This Day in 2004, Sri Lanka registered a 25-run win over India and won the Asia Cup for the third time at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Sri Lanka batted first and scored 228 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 50 overs, and In reply, India managed to score 203 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 50 overs.

On This Day in 2008, Sri Lankan mistry spinner Ajantha Mendis achieved his maiden Five wicket haul in an Innings in a Test match. He picked up six wickets against India at Galle. It’s recorded as his second-best bowling figure in Test matches.

On This Day in 2018, the England Cricket Team played their 1000th Test match. They were the first and only Team to play 1000 Test matches. England played their first Test match in March 1877 against Australia.

On This Day in 2018, Sri Lankan pacer Suranga Lakmal became the 17th Sri Lankan to reach 100 wickets milestone in ODI matches.

On This Day in 2018, Sri Lankan all rounder Thisara Perera became 4th Sri Lankan allrounder to score 1500+ runs and  claimed 150+ wickets in ODI matches.
