Afghanistan registered comfortable win over Ireland
Afghanistan registered a 35-run win over Ireland in the first ODI of the series at Sharjah on Thursday. Ireland captain Paul Stirling won the toss and opted to bowl first.
After losing the toss, Afghanistan made 310 runs for a loss of 5 wickets in their 50 overs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the top scorer with 121 runs, and Ibrahim Zadran scored 60 runs. Both Ibrahim Zadran and Gurbaz made a 150-run partnership for the first wicket. At the back end of the inning, skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi scored an unbeaten 50 runs in 33 balls, and Mohammad Nabi contributed with 40 runs in 27 balls. For Ireland, Theo van Woerkom claimed three wickets.
In reply to that, Ireland managed to score 275 runs for a loss of eight wickets in their 50 overs. Harry Tector played fighting knock and scored 138 runs, and Lorcan Tucker made 85 runs. Both Tucker and Tector made a 173-run partnership for the 4th wicket after 3 early wickets. However, other than that, no one was able to pass the double-figure mark. For Afghanistan, Fazalhaq Farooqi took four wickets.
