August 06: Highest Team total in Test Matches
On This Day in 1997, Sri Lanka registered the highest ever Team Total in Test matches. Sri Lanka scored 952 runs for the loss of six wickets and declared their innings in reply to India’s first innings. India scored 537 runs for the loss of eight wickets and declared their innings.
On This Day in 1997, Sri Lankan Legend Sanath Jayasuriya made his highest score in Test matches. He scored 340 runs with 36 fours and two sixes. Sanath Jayasuriya faced 578 balls and stayed on the crease for 799 minutes. Sanath Jayasuriya’s 340 runs ranked as the second-highest individual score for Sri Lanka in the Test matches.
On This Day in 1997, Roshan Mahanama and Sanath Jayasuriya made the highest second-wicket partnership in Test matches. Both Mahanama and Sanath Jayasuriya made 576 runs for the second wicket against India at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. It’s recorded as the second-highest partnership for any wicket in Test matches.
On This Day in 2010, Sri Lankan spinner Ajantha Mandis scored his highest score in Test matches. He scored 78 runs against India at the P. Saravanamuttu International Cricket Stadium in Colombo. He came out to bat when Sri Lanka were at 125 for eight wickets. After that, Ajantha Mendis and Thilan Samaraweera added 118 runs for the ninth wicket.
On This Day in 2011, Sri Lankan former captain TM Dilshan made his first hundred in T20I matches and became the second Sri Lankan to score a hundred in a T20I match. He scored an unbeaten 104 runs in 57 balls against Australia at Pallekele. It’s recorded as the Highest individual score in T20Is by a Sri Lankan. With that hundred, he became the first Sri Lankan to score hundreds in all formats of the game as the captain and the second Sri Lankan to do so.
On This Day in 2011, Sri Lankan all-rounder Dilruwan Perera made his debut in T20I matches. He played his first T20I match against Australia at Pallekele. Dilruwan has played three T20I matches and taken three wickets.
On This Day in 2017, Sri Lankan Test captain Dimuth Karunarathne made his sixth hundred in Test matches. He scored 141 runs against India at the Singhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo.
