July 23: Aravinda de Silva made his last appearance in Test matches
On This Day in 2002, Sri Lankan great Aravinda de Silva made his last appearance in Test matches. He made his Test debut in 1984, and since then he has played 93 Test matches and scored 6361 runs, including 20 Test hundreds. He played his last Test against Bangladesh in Colombo. Aravinda de Silva scored 206 runs and became the only Sri Lankan to score a double hundred in his last match of his career.
On This Day in 2009, Rangana Herath reached 50 wickets in Test matches. He claimed Umar Gul’s wicket in the 3rd Test match against Pakistan and completed his 50 wickets at the SCC in Colombo.
On This Day in 2021, Sri Lankan top-order batsman Bhanuka Rajapaksha scored his maiden fifty in ODI matches. He scored 65 runs against India, which was his highest score in ODI matches.
