“Mahela Jayawardene’s reviews was absolutely spot on and fabulous” – Pommie Mbangwa
Sri Lanka were bowled out for 213 runs in 47.4 overs against the Netherlands in the second match of the Super Six stage in the ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifiers 2023 on Friday at Bulawayo. The Netherlands kept things tight, took wickets at regular intervals, and put pressure on Sri Lanka from the word go.
On the prosses, Sri Lankan batsmen used their two reviews and lost both reviews in the half stage of the match. On the other hand, the Netherlands used their two reviews and lost both very early.
Earlier, Kusal Mendis reviewed and stayed the umpire’s call on hitting. However, Sri Lanka doesn’t lose the review because of the umpire’s call. Later, skipper Dasun Shanaka took the review, and the ball crashed into the leg stump. Finally, Wanindu Hasaranga was LBW, and he reviewed the decision, which hit the stump, and Sri Lanka lost their last review.
After the dismissal of Wanindu Hasaranga, during the 34th over of the match, Pommie Mbangwa expressed his idea on the way Sri Lankan players used their reviews and reminded the Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene during the commentary.
”This from a nation, think back folks, when all of this was child, and of course there was different people back them, Mahela Jayawardene, he was absolutely spot on in that trial period of the DRS, and his reviews was fabulous, not so here today.” Pommie Mbangwa said.
