England Seal ODI Series with Dominant Win Over Sri Lanka in 3rd ODI
England registered a commanding 53-run victory over Sri Lanka in the third and final ODI on Tuesday at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo, sealing the three-match series 2–1.
England captain Harry Brook won the toss and elected to bat first — a decision that paid rich dividends. The visitors produced a batting masterclass, posting a massive 357 for 3 in their allotted 50 overs.
Skipper Harry Brook led from the front with a sensational unbeaten 136 off just 66 balls, showcasing brutal stroke play. Veteran Joe Root complemented him perfectly, playing a classy innings of 111 not out. The duo stitched together an unbroken 191-run partnership for the fourth wicket, completely taking the game away from the hosts. Jacob Bethell also made a valuable contribution, scoring 62 runs.
In response, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 304 runs in 46.4 overs. The hosts got off to a flying start, but once again failed to capitalize on it, with none of the top-order batters converting their starts into big scores. Pathum Nissanka scored a rapid 50 off 24 balls before being dismissed.
The standout performer for Sri Lanka was Pavan Rathnayake, who played a fighting knock of 121 runs, keeping Sri Lanka in the contest despite wickets falling at regular intervals.
With this victory, England clinched the ODI series 2–1, handing Sri Lanka their first home ODI series defeat since losing to India in July 2021
