Sri Lanka’s worst T20 World Cup ever
Bangladesh registered a historic two-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 on Friday at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas. Sri Lanka batted first and scored 124 runs for a loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs. In reply to that, Bangladesh chased down the target successfully and scored 125 runs for a loss of eight wickets in 19 overs. This win marked Bangladesh’s first win against Sri Lanka in T20 World Cup history. Previously, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka met each other twice in the 2007 and 2021 T20 World Cups, and Sri Lanka became the winners in both occasions.
With that defeat, Sri Lanka is almost out of the T20 World Cup in 2024. This is the first time that Sri Lanka has been knocked out of the T20 World Cup in the first round. They became champions in 2014, and they were runner-ups in 2009 and 2012. Also, Sri Lanka qualified for the semi-finals in 2010.
This is the first time that Sri Lanka has lost their first two matches in T20 World Cup history. Sri Lanka were beaten by South Africa by six wickets in their opening match in the T20 World Cup 2024.
