The defending champions start the IPL campaign with a win

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings registered a six-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opening match of the Indian Premier League 2024 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday. Royal Challengers Bengaluru captain Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bat first.

After winning the toss, Royal Challengers Bengaluru scored 173 runs for a loss of six wickets in their 20 overs. Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis made a 41-run partnership for the first wicket until du Plessis was dismissed for 35 runs. Kohli scored 21 runs. Anuj Rawat was the top scorer with 48 runs, while Dinesh Karthik scored an unbeaten 38 runs. Both Karthik and Anuj Rawat made a 95-run partnership for the sixth wicket. For Chennai, Mustafizur Rahman claimed four wickets.

In reply to that, the Chennai Super Kings chased down the target successfully and scored 176 runs for a loss of 4 wickets in 18.4 overs. Rachin Ravindra was the top scorer with 37 runs, and Shivam Dube made an unbeaten 34 runs. Ajinkya Rahane scored 27 runs, and Ravindra Jadeja contributed with an unbeaten 25 runs.
