We all knew that Dhananjaya is a top-quality player – Angelo Mathews

At the end of the 1st Day of the 1st Test match between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, Sri Lanka’s most experienced player, Angelo Mathews, joined the press conference and shared his thoughts of day one. Matthews scored a tremendous 64 runs, and he made a 131-run partnership with Dhananjaya de Silva.

“The start was very difficult. We are up against a high-quality bowling line-up, and Shaen and Naseem were bowling really well. The first inning was very important, and we are looking to score as much as we can in the first inning.” Mathews said.

Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva added 131 runs for the fifth wicket until Mathews was dismissed just before the Tea break. This partnership came in when Sri Lanka was in a spot of bother with 54 for 4 wickets. Angelo Mathews expresses his thoughts about Dhananjaya de Silva. “Dhananjaya de Silva batted really well; he was positive and aggressive.” We all knew that Dhananjaya is a top-quality player, and now he is showing his maturity and experience batting at number six, which is a very vital position for any team.” Angelo Mathews said “We know that in a situation like this today, We were in a spot of bother and we needed to put our hands up and try to get a partnership there, So Dhananjaya has involved himself so much as a cricketer as an all-rounder that he has contributed in all three formats for us. in very consistency too.” He added. Also, Angelo Mathews wished Dhananjaya de Silva to get his 10th Test hundred.

Also, Angelo Mathews expressed his thoughts on the Test Championship, saying it added color to the Test Format. “I think Dimuth led really well in the last cycle as well, and all the boys put up their hands and showed what they were capable of.” Angelo Mathews said “As a team, we did really well and performed at home and away as well. That is what we are looking forward to doing: trying to be consistent with our individual performances as well as as a team.” He said.
