South Africa registered a comfortable 9-wicket win over Afghanistan in the 1st semi-final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad. Afghanistan batted first and bowled out for 56 runs in 11.5 overs. South Africa chased down the target successfully and scored 60 runs for a loss of 1 wicket in 8.5 overs.
Even though Afghanistan lost the match Afghan bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi achieved a milestone and broke the record for the most wickets in a T20 World Cup edition in history. He scored 17 wickets in the ongoing T20 World Cup, and he surpasses Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who took 16 wickets in the 2021 T20 World Cup.
