Sri Lanka start their Asia Cup campaign with a win
Sri Lanka registered a five-wicket win over Bangladesh in the second match of the Asia Cup 2023 on Thursday at Pallekele. Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and opted to bat first.
After winning the toss, Bangladesh was bowled out for 164 runs in 42.4 overs. Najmul Hossain Shanto was the top scorer with 89 runs, and Towhid Hridoy scored 20 runs. Mohammad Naim scored 16 runs, while Mushfiqur Rahim contributed 13 runs. Other than that, no one was able to cross the double-figure mark. For Sri Lanka, Matheesha Pathirana claimed four wickets, while Maheesh Theekshana chipped in with two.
In reply to that, Sri Lanka chased down the target successfully and scored 165 runs for the loss of five wickets in 39 overs. Charith Asalanka was the star with the bat and scored an unbeaten 62 runs, while Sadeera Samarawickrama contributed 54 runs. Both Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka shared a 78-run partnership for the 4th wicket. Dasun Shanaka and Pathum Nissanka scored 14 runs each. For Bangladesh, Shakib Al Hasan claimed two wickets.
