Smith’s ton and O’Keefe’s brilliant bowling registered a convincing win for Australia
Steven Smith’s ton and Steve O’Keefe’s brilliant bowling registered a convincing 333 runs win for Australia over India, in 1st test match, at the Pune on Saturday. Australian Captain Steven Smith won the coin toss, and elected to bat first.
After they winning the toss Australia off to a solid start and they made 82 runs partnership for the first wicket. For Austalia it was Matt Renshaw was the top scorer with 68 runs. He became the youngest Australian to score 50 or more in India. Mitchell Starc contributed with good 61 runs. Both Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood made 55 runs partnership for the last wicket. While in the bowling department, it was Umesh Yadav, who claimed four wickets. Finally Australia team all out for 260 runs in the 1st Innings.
In reply that India were bowled out for 105 runs. KL Rahul was the only successful batsman and He scored 64 runs. Indian never really got going and lost wickets at regular intervals. India lost their last 7 wickets for just 11 runs. Steve O’Keefe bowled brilliantly and claimed 6 wickets for 35 runs.
Australia started their second innings with the 155 runs lead. In the Australian second Innings it was Steven Smith who was the top scorer with 109 runs. Other batsman batted around him and they contributed with good 20s and 30s. Eventually Australia were bowled out for 285 runs and set 440 runs target to India to chase.
India batsman collapsed once again and they were all out for 107 runs in second innings and awarding Australia a respectable 333-runs win. Cheteshwar pujara was the top scorer with 31 runs. Australian bowlers kept things tight. Specially two spinners bowled brilliantly and shaped the 10 wickets. Steve O’Keefe claimed 6 wickets and Nathan Lyon took 4 wickets.
