Shikhar Dhawan is likely to lead a India team in Asian Games 2023

Indian media report that Indian opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan is likely to lead a India team while former Indian batter VVS Laxman will coach the side in the Asian Games 2023, which are scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8. However, the decision is yet to be finalized, and The Board of Control for Cricket in India has not yet made an official announcement on this. The BCCI agreed to send both men’s and Women’s teams for the first time to the Asia Games.

In 2010, for the first time, cricket was included in the Asian Games and the Twenty20 format was played for both men and women. Nine teams played in 2010, and Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan sent their second-string teams while India did not take part. Bangladesh won the Gold medal in 2010, and Afghanistan and Pakistan won Silver and bronze, respectively.

India skipped the 2014 Asian Games in Cricket as well, and Sri Lanka won the Gold medal while Afghanistan won the Silver. Bangladesh won the Bronze medal.
