Chamari Athapaththu broke her own record

Sri Lanka’s women’s team registered a 10 wicket win over New Zealand women’s in the 3rd and final T20I of the series on Wednesday at Colombo. The New Zealand women batted first and scored 140 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs. In reply, Sri Lanka’s women chased down the target successfully and scored 143 runs without losing a wicket in 14.3 overs. Chamari Athapaththu scored an unbeaten 80 runs, while Harshitha Samarawickrama contributed with an unbeaten 49 runs.

This win was the Sri Lanka women’s team’s first ever T20I win against the New Zealand women’s team. Both Sri Lanka and New Zealand have played 11 T20I matches, and the New Zealand women have won in 10 previous matches. Sri Lanka Women scored 143 runs against New Zealand, which is their highest Team total against New Zealand Women. Also, Chamari Athapaththu and Harshitha Samarawickrama made a 143-run partnership for the 1st wicket, which is the highest 1st wicket partnership for Sri Lanka in their first innings.

Sri Lankan skipper Chamari Athapaththu scored an unbeaten 80 runs in 47 balls with 13 fours and 2 sixes. She smashed 50 runs in 25 balls, which is recorded as the fastest fifty by a Sri Lankan in women’s Cricket. With that, She broke her own record. Previously, Chamari Athapaththu scored 50 runs in 26 balls against Scotland in 2022. This mind-blowing knock renewed many records in Sri Lankan women’s Cricket history.
