Australia won the series with one match to spare

On the fifth day of the second Test at Melbourne, Australia defeated South Africa by an innings and 182 runs. Australia captain Pat Cummins won the coin toss and elected to bowl first.

After losing the toss, South Africa scored 189 runs in their first innings. Marco Jansen was the top scorer with 59 runs, and Kyle Verreynne scored 52 runs. For Australia, Cameron Green claimed five wickets for 27 runs.

In reply, Australia made a strong reply and scored 575 runs for the loss of eight wickets. Opening batsman David Warner was the star with the bat and scored 200 runs in his 100th Test match. Alex Carey scored 111 runs, and Steven Smith scored 85 runs. Travis Head and Cameron Green contributed 51 runs each. For South Africa, Anrich Nortje claimed three wickets.

South Africa star their 2nd innings with 386 runs behind and they bowled out for 204 runs. Temba Bavuma was the top scorer with 65 runs. Kyle Verreynne scored 33 runs. While in the bowling department, Nathan Lyon claimed three wickets.

David Warner was named the player of the match for his brilliant double hundred.
