Australia registered their first win after two lost in WC

Australia registered a comfortable five-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the 14th match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 on Monday at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Sri Lankan captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and elected to bat first. 

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka got off to a solid start. Sri Lankan openers Kusal Janith Perera and Pathum Nissanka made a 125-run partnership for the first wicket. Pathum Nissanka scored 61 runs. Kusal Janith Perera was the top scorer with 78 runs. However, after a solid start, Sri Lanka lost momentum and lost wickets at regular intervals. Charith Asalanka contributed with 25 runs. Other than that, no one was able to cross the double-figure mark. Eventually, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 209 runs in 44.3 overs. For Australia, Adam Zampa claimed four wickets. 

In reply to that, Australia chased down the target successfully and scored 215 runs for a loss of 5 wickets in 35.2 overs. Australia is off to a shaky start with a loss of two wickets in one over when the score was 24. After that, Mitchell Marsh and Marnus Labuschagne made 57 runs for the third wicket. Mitchell Marsh scored 52 runs, and he was unfortunately runout. After the dismissal of Marsh, Josh Inglis and Marnus Labuschagne added 77 runs for the 4th wicket and took the game away from Sri Lanka. Marnus Labuschagne contributed with 40 runs. Josh Inglis was the top scorer with 58 runs. At the back end of the inning, Glenn Maxwell scored an unbeaten 31 runs in 21 balls, and Marcus Stoinis smashed 20 runs in 10 notouts. For Sri Lanka, Dilshan Madushanka was the only bowler with three wickets.
