August 16: Rangana Herath’s record breaking spell

On This Day in 2014, Sri Lankan spin wizard Rangana Herath became the first left-arm bowler to take nine wickets in an Innings. He claimed nine wickets for 127 runs against Pakistan at the Singhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo. Its recorded as his best bowling figures in an innings.

On This Day in 2011, Sri Lankan pacer Shaminda Eranga made his debut in ODI matches. He played his first ODI match against Australia at Hambanthota. Eranga had a fantastic debut, and he took the wicket of Brad Haddin in his first over.

On This Day in 2011, Sri Lankan former captain Upul Tharanga passed 4000 runs in ODI matches
