August 12: Sanath Jayasuriya dismissed for 199
On This Day in 1997, Sri Lankan Legand Sanath Jayasuriya became the fourth player to be dismissed on 199 Test matches. He was dismissed for 199 runs in Sri Lanka’s second Innings against India at the Singhalese Sports Club Cricket Ground in Colombo. Indian bowler Abey Kuruvilla took the wicket of Sanath Jayasuriya.
On This Day in 1997, Sri Lanka’s dashing opening batsman Sanath Jayasuriya scored 571 runs in a two-match Test series against India. He scored 340 runs in the first test of the series and 32 and 199 runs in the second test match, respectively.
On This Day in 2018, Sri Lankan spinner Akila Dhananjaya achieved his best bowling figures in ODI matches. He claimed six wickets for 29 runs in nine overs against South Africa at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. He was awarded the man of the match award for his bowling performance. This was recorded as his second five-wicket haul in ODI matches.
