AB steps down as Test captain
32 years old South African batsman AB de Villliers has stepped down as Proteas test captain. He has made this decision because of he has been ruled out of the three Tests against Sri Lanka as he continues to recover from surgery. He was out of action since the Caribbean Premier League in July. South African Cricket board have confirmed that they have named Faf du Plessis as his replacement.
South African Middle order batsman AB de Villiers has scored 8074 runs in 106 Test Matches that he played. He was appointed as South Africa Test Captain in January After the resignation of Hashim Amla. He lead the side for 2 Test matches and South African have won one Test against England under de Villiers’ captaincy.
After the de Villiers’ resignation, South African Cricket board have confirmed that they have named Faf du Plessis as his replacement. du Plessis lead the Proteas to a 1-0 Test series win over New Zealand, a 5-0 whitewash of Australia in the One Day Internationals and a 2-1 win over the same opposition in Tests.
